A half-century ago Erich Jantsch issued the above call to action to "the university" as institution. We are resubmitting it to the academia, which we define as "institutionalized academic tradition".

Our point is to highlight that the contemporary university institution, and not only the university, has been developed on the legacy of the original Academia, and of the Enlightenment where this legacy was rediscovered and developed further.

The founding fathers of Academia, and the giants of the Enlightenment, dared to stand up to the power structures of the day, and by evolving knowledge work helped the society evolve further. Our appeal is to continue this legacy.
